    When you think of Big Ben, you probably think of a really big clock when, in actuality, Big Ben isn't a clock, but the name of the clock's 13-ton bell. It was named after Sir Benjamin Hall who was the British commissioner of works at the time the clock was built. The tower that holds the clock and the bell, the Elizabeth Tower, was completed in 1858 after a fire destroyed most of the Palace of Westminster in 1834. Source: parliament.uk
