What is the oldest known piece of literature?

  • The Bible
  • The Epic of Gilgamesh
  • The Inferno by Dante
  • Instructions of Shuruppak correct

Whoa, there, literature buffs! I know it was a bold move we made here and yes, we know the Epic of Gilgamesh is the oldest known work of fiction but let's take a second here and go over the answer. The Epic of Gilgamesh was written around 2100 BC whereas the Instructions of Shuruppak dates even further, like way further, like 2500 BC! Woah! If you haven't heard of the Instructions of Shuruppak, have faith in our fellow ancestors! They came up with all sorts of lovely life instructions such as not to “pass judgment when you drink beer” and “a loving heart maintains a family; a hateful heart destroys a family.” Applicable even today!
