When was the Dr. Martens footwear brand founded?
German military physician Dr. Klaus Märtens partnered with fellow countryman Dr. Herbert Funk to found Dr. Martens in 1947. By 1959, the company had grown so profitable that the men started selling the patent rights to the proprietary shoe technology that separated them from competitors: the air-cushioned sole. The British shoemaking company R. Griggs Group Limited acquired the patent that same year and started producing Dr. Martens in the U.K. Source: Dr. Martens.
